Mayu Mission x Scarlett Music Initiative

Empowering Indigenous women artisans through music, design, and purpose.

Mayu Mission is a U.S.-based nonprofit that supports Indigenous artisans and women entrepreneurs across Central and South America. Inspired by the Quechua word Mayu—meaning river, cosmos, or purpose—our mission supports Indigenous women artisans and entrepreneurs by merging cultural preservation with modern innovation.

Our Purpose

Mayu Mission uplifts Indigenous artisans and women entrepreneurs across Central and South America. Through ancestral knowledge and modern tools, we preserve endangered crafts, languages, and songs while opening access to global markets.
Our work rests on three pillars: Preservation, Digitalization, and Entrepreneurship—each designed to safeguard culture, strengthen livelihoods, and honor Indigenous voices.

Our Three Pillars

  • Preservation

Safeguarding endangered crafts, songs, and ancestral knowledge.

  • Digitalization

Protecting Indigenous intellectual property and connecting traditions to global markets.

  • Entrepreneurship

Building leadership and sustainable livelihoods through creative enterprise.

Why It Matters

Indigenous cultures face growing threats—loss of language, limited opportunities for women, and the exploitation of natural resources. Supporting these communities preserves not only heritage but also ecological balance and intergenerational wisdom.

  • Vanishing crafts, songs, and languages

  • Gender inequality

  • Poverty and exploitation

  • Environmental destruction

Our Solutions in Action

We transform challenges into opportunity through tangible initiatives:

  • Cultural Preservation: living archives, weaving centers, and museum projects.

  • Economic Empowerment: fair-trade production and artisan entrepreneurship.

  • Digital Protection: licensing ancestral designs to ensure recognition and compensation.

  • Impact Travel: regenerative experiences connecting travelers with Indigenous communities.

Entrepreneur Focus

Guided by Scarlett de la Torre, this initiative merges music, art, and ethical commerce. Each concert becomes both a performance and a marketplace—spotlighting handcrafted works from Indigenous artisans while funding the continuation of their traditions.

By aligning artistry with impact, the project builds a sustainable model for cultural regeneration that uplifts both artist and community.

Our Impact

Our partner companies currently sustain three communities—over thirty weavers in Peru and a Huni Kuin village in the Amazon. These collaborations provide living wages and invest in essential infrastructure that supports dignified living conditions.
