The Musical Activation Experience: Rainforest Edition is a 6-week beginner’s music program in harp or guitar, held live on Zoom each Wednesday beginning October 1st, 2025. For those who wish to truly activate their musical gifts, this learning experience offers an optional music immersion in the Brazilian Amazon — a rare opportunity to engage in musical study with the Yawanawa people, within the ecological and cultural richness of the rainforest. This hybrid format blends the structure of online music education with the depth of experiential, land-based learning.
The optional immersion offers respectful exchange with Indigenous elders, where music is lived through ritual, sacrament, and intergenerational transmission. Participants will use their newfound musical skills to engage with ancestral chants, shared ceremonies, and forest-based teachings that reveal music’s role in healing and restoring right relationship between people, land, and spirit. This experience expands musical growth into memory, ecology, and meaning. The immersion is booked and coordinated through our partner YawaJourneys, who hold over two decades of harmonic collaboration with the Yawanawa and the Amazon.

"I recently graduated from the Musical Activation Experience and AHA School of Sound Source-ry with Scarlett de la Torre. Not only did I think I would never be able to learn to play instruments and sing — I also didn’t imagine I would do this in the middle of recovery from a life-altering accident. When the accident happened, I decided immediately to have it mean something and to use the experience to transform. I didn’t know how exactly, but I knew I had to commit to myself. The accident left me with issues besides my broken face. My left hand wasn’t working, I had post-concussion syndrome and PTSD. I saw neurologists and psychologists who either said there was nothing they could do or tried to put me on strong medicine. Learning music helped my brain rebuild. I had lapses in memory about basic things, and learning music brought back my sharpness. I was slowly but surely firing and wiring the new neural pathways and remembering each class. My brain healed faster in the couple of months I was learning music with Scarlett than the entire 6 months before in Doctor care. Singing, playing music, and learning sound healing helped soothe my overstimulated nervous system. My left hand lost partial mobility, and the harp brought it back 6 months after the accident when physical therapy wasn’t helping. Learning with Scarlet was amazing. She is a phenomenal teacher. It was both entertaining and easy to grasp. I came in with absolutely no music background, even musical blockages, I would say. Learning with Scarlett was really heartwarming because I felt like I was a total disaster at the beginning. It was really challenging for me to grab the chords and understand the rhythm of music. Scarlett really helped me to go step by step and to feel it. Also having my wife in the program with me is kind of challenging. In the beginning, I was really shy about playing or singing to other people. But the support of the group, Scarlett, and my wife pushed me and motivated me to step out of my comfort zone, and I did. I played for other people for the first time, which I had never done, and never sang for anyone except for myself. If you play an instrument, it's like playing from your soul. It brings healing to the planet. It brings joy, and happiness, it can trigger emotions, it can heal traumas, and blockages, just through sound, just through vibration, just through music. Learning with Scarlet was one of the most profound experiences of my life, which allowed me to explore new parts of myself, and challenge myself in ways that I never have before. Choose the harp or guitar
HARP: Roosebeck 22-String Fully Levered Harp is the best choice for this mentorship.
GUITAR: We love ¾ guitars like Cordoba or Martin because they’re smaller and easy to play, but pop into a guitar shop and choose an acoustic guitar that resonates. Scarlett uses a classical nylon string Yamaha TransAcoustic guitar, it’s a matter of personal taste, really. Classical strings for a softer more feminine sound and steel strings if you want to rock out and strum.

The Neuroscience of Learning Music:
Learning music as an adult supports real, lasting changes in the brain. This program uses instruments, voice, and rhythm to improve focus, memory, and emotional well-being through a process called neuroplasticity, your brain’s ability to grow and adapt.
Time in the rainforest, in ceremonial settings guided by Indigenous elders, creates powerful conditions for emotional integration and neural transformation. Studies show that certain sacred plant sacraments reduce activity in the brain’s default mode network - associated with rumination and trauma retention - while increasing connectivity between regions tied to memory, emotion, and interoception. Amazon Immersion: Yawanawa Music Study
After our 6-week music program, grab your instruments and head to the Amazon! Participants can join an optional immersion in the Brazilian Amazon: a 10-day experience held in the Yawanawa village in Acre, Brazil.
The Yawanawa are an Indigenous community known for their sophisticated musical traditions and spiritual leadership. This immersion is held with the guidance of Chief Nixiwaka and Putanny Yawanawa, who have spent decades restoring and protecting their cultural knowledge and sacred songs.
You’ll stay in the Yawanawa territory, sleep in wooden cabins or hammocks, and join daily activities including:
Ancestral Plant Ceremonies led by Yawanawa elders and musicians
Daily Music learning sessions with traditional chants and contemporary Yawanawa songs driven by instruments
Forest walks with community members who share plant and song knowledge
Rest time by the river or in your hammock
Evenings with shared songs and stories
Meals prepared by Yawanawa women using local ingredients
About Scarlett de la Torre
Scarlett de la Torre is a visionary musician, sound meditation facilitator, vocal alchemist, DJ, and multimedia artist whose innovative work merges neuroscience-informed practices with intuitive artistry. As the founder of the AHA Sound Sanctuary, established in 2018, Scarlett creates accessible entry points into the transformative realms of music, sound healing, and vocal empowerment, guiding beginners and seasoned practitioners alike toward sovereign self-expression and deeper self-awareness.
Her love of teaching spans over a decade, with roots in dedicated activism. Fusing her love of Sound and earth-based healing and advocacy, Scarlett’s voice and sound has supported the ceremonial tours of Indigenous leaders of the Asheninka, Huni Kuin, and Yawanawa people. Through her work with Indigenous pajés, Scarlett cultivated a deep passion for supporting plant medicine circles within Ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities through the transformative power of music, building bridges of peace, understanding, and cultural connection. Scarlett also collaborates closely with The Wonderland Project, providing legal and subsidized plant-assisted therapy In for survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse, offering therapeutic pathways to recovery and empowerment.
